Developed in 1953, the Chevrolet Corvette was first presented at the 1953 Motorama in New York. The brainchild of 20th century stylist Harley Earl, the first generation Corvette received a lukewarm reception from buyers because of its high price and rather ordinary performance. In 1962, more than 69,000 Corvettes were assembled.
In 1963, Chevrolet found a new lease of life with the arrival of the Corvette Sting Ray, a real success signed by Larry Shinoda and Bill Mitchell. Equipped with a V8 engine of 250 hp, it will be improved in terms of performance in 1966 with the arrival of the V8 of 425 hp propelling it from 0 to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds. Chevrolet Corvette fans are also waiting for a third generation, the Corvette C3, scheduled for 1968.
Inspired by the Mako Shark II concept, the 1968 Corvette C3 became the most popular of the 3 versions. Produced with a 435hp V8 engine, it impressed with its design, power and sensations. This 3rd generation remains one of the American brand's most emblematic models to this day. It was followed by 5 other generations of Corvette, keeping the myth alive.
