On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911, the German brand is presenting its new generation, the 991, at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. As with previous generations, new models include the S, Cabriolet, Turbo and Targa versions.
The 991 is based on an all-new platform, wider and longer by 100mm and 70mm respectively. The use of aluminum and composite materials reduces the weight of the 991 Carrera 4 to around 1,450 kilos. These changes are accompanied by an evolution of the flat 6, now developing 350 hp and 390 Nm of torque which, combined with the PDK automatic gearbox, takes the 991 from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. This will also be the last naturally-aspirated engine, as Porsche abandons this solution in favor of the turbo. Phase 2 will benefit from a power increase of 20 hp and 60 Nm.
The Flat 6 and PDK gearbox quickly justify the purchase of this 991 Carrera 4, so easy is it to drive that it's as sporty. Gear changes are meticulous, bringing the roar of the flat 6 with every acceleration. The feedback from gear changes never tires.
