Launched in 2013, the 981 generation Porsche Cayman is the successor to the 987. This new version features a completely redesigned chassis, shared with the Boxster 981. Stiffness and dynamism are its main qualities, transforming the Cayman 981 into a true racing car. The engine's 275 hp and PDK gearbox provide a truly sporting experience, confirmed by a reworked look with wider tracks and sharper lines.
This Porsche Cayman 981 was put on the road on April 11, 2012 in Germany, but its first owner had it imported to the Netherlands, where it was maintained for a long time at the Porsche Centre Eindoven, then by Dutch specialists such as Witmer & Odijk before being sold to its current owner. This Porsche arrives in France in 2023. It comes in a sporty configuration with white bodywork combined with black rims and red calipers. Its exterior condition is very good. The paintwork is in perfect condition and there are no scratches or nicks on the bumpers or doors. However, there is a dent in the roof on the left rear quarter. Rims are in good condition. Inside, all components are in good condition. The black leather seats feature red stitching, reminiscent of the brake calipers. The dashboard, steering wheel, center console and door interiors are in excellent condition, as are the contrasting aluminum elements. The on-board instrumentation and multimedia systems function normally. An Apple Car Play/Android auto module has been added to the original car radio for added modernity.
Mechanically, this model is in excellent working order. With 110,000 kilometers on the clock, the engine is still in excellent working order. Start-ups are trouble-free, and there's no noise when you're on the road. The 2.7-liter flat-six offers 275 hp and a sporty character, thanks in particular to its more expressive Cayman S exhaust and its combination with the PDK gearbox. The last overhaul will take place in June 2023 at Porsche specialists Witmer & Odijk.
Here are the features and options available on this model:
The Porsche Cayman 981, introduced in 2013 and produced until 2016, marks a significant evolution in the Cayman model line. In 2014, this model consolidated its position as an iconic figure in the luxury sports car segment. The design of the Cayman 981 illustrates a stylistic and technical evolution from its predecessor, the Cayman 987. The chassis, shared with the Boxster 981, has been completely redesigned, offering greater rigidity and improved driving dynamics. The longer wheelbase and wider track contribute to improved stability. The exterior design features sharper lines and a lower profile, while the interior receives notable updates in terms of materials and ergonomics.
The Cayman 981 is offered in a number of engine variants, all of which are flat-six (boxer) and naturally-aspirated. The base model is equipped with a 2.7-liter engine producing 275 hp (202 kW) and 290 Nm of torque. The more powerful Cayman S features a 3.4-liter engine delivering 325 hp (239 kW) and 370 Nm of torque. These engines use direct fuel injection and VarioCam Plus technology to optimize performance and efficiency. Two transmission options are available: a six-speed manual gearbox and a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The PDK transmission offers rapid gear changes and greater fuel efficiency, while the manual gearbox emphasizes driver involvement.
The Cayman 981 boasts impressive performance figures. The standard model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in around 5.6 seconds, while the Cayman S does so in 4.7 seconds. Top speed is 266 km/h for the base model and 283 km/h for the S. The vehicle is equipped with a number of technological features, including Porsche Communication Management (PCM), a Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, and the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) stabilization system. Safety is enhanced by high-performance braking systems, multiple airbags and a reinforced body structure.
The Cayman 981 was well received for its balance of performance, comfort and everyday practicality. It strengthened Porsche's reputation in the luxury sports coupe segment and served as the basis for the development of subsequent models, including the 718 generation which introduced turbocharged engines. The 2014 Porsche Cayman 981 represents an important milestone in the brand's evolution, combining tradition and innovation, and continues to be a benchmark in its segment.
