This status will only last for one year, before the R8 GT comes out. This limited series of 333 units is based on a more powerful, lighter and faster R8 V10. Aesthetically, the GT is distinguished by matte carbon bodywork elements, designed to increase its aerodynamic support, like its fixed spoiler and its front bumper, equipped with a double blade and two splitters at its ends. Its mirror caps and sideblades are also made of carbon composite.
In addition to its slightly reworked aesthetic appearance, the R8 GT is distinguished by its technical and mechanical improvements. Lighter by 100 kg compared to a "simple" V10, but also more powerful by 35 hp, it accelerates from 0 to 100 in 3.6 seconds, from 0 to 200 in 10.8 seconds and reaches 320 km/h.
Its consequent weight reduction was made possible by the presence of polycarbonate windows, a thin glass windscreen, and carbon-framed bucket seats, which are 32 kilos lighter than those of the R8 V10. The Ingolstadt engineers left nothing to chance, even going so far as to change the carpet and the battery for lighter versions. The chassis has been lowered by 10mm compared to the R8 V10 and benefits from a new braking system with 6-piston calipers and carbon ceramic discs of 380mm and 365mm.
