Singularity of the car

  • British Racing Green color, rare in Europe
  • Quality of HCV preparation
  • Stainless-steel exhaust with a captivating sound

Our Datsun 240Z was delivered new in the USA and put on the road in 1971. It was imported into France in 2012 and remains in the hands of its sole French owner.

This model is presented in British Racing Green, with gray 15" Minilite wheels and black fabric and leatherette interior. Overall condition is excellent. The interior is fully equipped following VHC preparation. It includes: vintage bucket seats / harness / half roll bar / padded door panel / racing steering wheel / kill switch / fire extinguisher and additional instrumentation (original parts retained).

Mechanically, it runs flawlessly. The engine's preparation led to its complete dismantling. Competition parts were fitted, and the camshafts were changed and mounted on bearings. Power steering and a stainless steel exhaust complete the equipment. The in-line 6-cylinder engine develops 150 hp. It has been serviced by historic sports car specialists since 2012.

Historical summary of the model

Datsun was originally a Japanese manufacturer founded in 1913. Bought out by Nissan in 1933, its success began in the 1960s with a small roadster called the Fairlady. Imported into the USA and Europe, the models were distributed under the Datsun name, not Nissan. With the success of the Fairlady, Datsun developed a sportier version. This is the Datsun 240Z, better known in Japan as the Fairlady Z.

Produced from 1969 to 1973, the Datsun 240Z is a 3-door coupe in front-engine, rear-wheel-drive configuration. It was an instant hit, especially in the USA, thanks to its restrained size, aggressive styling and affordable price. Stretched lines and a very long hood are reminiscent of the E-Type. Under the hood, the 2,393 cm3, 130 hp, in-line 6-cylinder engine delivers excellent thrills, and a lovely sound when revved. The 5-speed manual gearbox is demanding but very pleasant. The result is excellent roadholding and undeniable driving pleasure, a perfect launch pad for the Z series as we know it today.
