Our Jaguar Mark II was delivered new in England and put on the road on February 24, 1964. It has been bought by 5 owners, including its current owner since March 2021.

This Jaguar MKII is in good overall condition, with a few signs of use consistent with its age. In a white hue, combined with numerous chromes, a wooden dashboard and a red leather interior, this example is not lacking in charm. There are a few micro-scratches on the bodywork and slight wear on the leathers.  

Mechanically, this Jaguar MKII is in good working order. The 210 hp 3.4 L in-line 6-cylinder engine, combined with the manual gearbox, starts up without a hitch and delivers all its power. On the other hand, the windscreen wipers are malfunctioning. Maintenance work was carried out at SIGMA London, who also completely rebuilt the engine of this Mark II. The last service will be carried out in 2021. The service history is available.

Historical summary of the model

During 1952, Jaguar completed its move from Swallow Road to Browns Lane in Coventry. It was at this point that the Utah project made its appearance. This project concerned the production of a new model, a sedan with unitary construction and an engine of around 2.5 liters. The choice of a unitary construction, rather than a separate chassis and body, was justified by an economic advantage and the possibility of reducing the final weight. The dimensions of the Utah project were revealed: a wheelbase of 107.4 inches, a length of 181 inches, a width of 67 inches and a height of 57.5 inches. Similar in size to the MKVII sedan, the Utah project is considerably lighter, saving 1200 lb.  

As for the engine, Jaguar had to give its project an engine powerful enough to reach 100 mph. To achieve this, the Coventry-based company tested a 2.0 L XK engine, which was too weak, as well as a 3.4 L engine in August 1952. However, another engine came into its own. The 2.4 L XK uses a shorter block than the 3.4 L, and Solex carburetors to develop 112 bhp at 5,750 rpm. The project was finally unveiled at the Earls Court Motor Show on October 19, 1955, under the official Jaguar 2.4-liter name. It was produced in 2 versions, Standard and Special Equipment. Testing by the motoring magazines of the day revealed a top speed of around 102 mph, and a 0-60 mph time of just 15 seconds. Despite good performance, the 2.4 L engine proved too small for the American market, resulting in a necessary change of displacement. The larger 3.4 L engine required, among other things, new radiators, wider front fenders and reinforced suspension to support the weight.  

Its 1957 Motor Magazine test revealed a top speed of 120 mph, well above that of the 2.4L version. From 1957 to 1959, Sir Williams Lyon's design and the mechanical elements underwent a number of modifications. The days of the Jaguar 2.4L and 3.4L were numbered, however, with the forthcoming development of a MK2 version. Sir William Lyons redesigned the car's styling, particularly the rear window pillars. This and other styling touches, such as a new grille, transformed the car's appearance at minimal cost to Jaguar. The interior was revised with new seats, a walnut dashboard and a more modern black steering wheel. The main mechanical change was the installation of a wider-track rear axle to improve handling at high speeds. The choice of engine was based on the 3.8L XK, which had previously appeared in the XK150 in 1958, but also on the 3.4L, upgraded to produce 210 hp. The Jaguar MK2 was announced on October 2, 1959. This name implied the existence of an MK1 version, so the Jaguar 2.4L was renamed after the fact. The Mark 2 was produced from 1959 to 1967, with almost 84,000 units sold, including around 30,000 in the 3.8L version and the remainder in the 3.4L version.
