Our Land Rover 88 Series 3 was delivered new in Switzerland and put on the road on March1, 1982. Its previous owner, a mechanic by profession, carried out a complete mechanical restoration, which will be continued mechanically and aesthetically by its current owner in accordance with the rules of the art.
The car is in excellent overall condition, testifying to the quality of the restoration work carried out. The odometer reads 15,829 KM, with only 500 kilometers covered since restoration. In its Pastel Green hue, combined with limestone wheels, dark beige tarpaulin and sublime black imitation leather upholstery, this Land Rover is in its strict original configuration and is faultless. No corrosion is to be deplored.
Mechanically, all engine, gearbox, transfer case, overdrive, axle and chassis components have been restored to perfect working order. The 4-cylinder, 2.3-liter, 71-hp gasoline engine, combined with the 4-speed manual gearbox, enables the car to handle all kinds of terrain and kilometers with ease. All maintenance work has been carried out by specialists and documented. The last service was carried out in 2024.
This model features the following equipment:
Introduced in 1971, the Land Rover Series 3 was an improved version of the earlier Series 2 and 2A. Produced at Land Rover's historic Solihull plant between 1973 and 1985, the Series 3 once again demonstrated Land Rover's expertise in cross-country driving, with a vehicle capable of operating in the most demanding environments. Numerous mechanical improvements were introduced, but most parts remained interchangeable between the Series 3 and the Series 2A.
It features the fully-synchronized 4-speed gearbox used on late Series 2A models, as well as fender-mounted headlamps and an elegant-looking plastic grille to replace the metal one. The hood is redesigned with a rounded edge, and a recessed spare wheel completes the exterior styling changes. The interior has been partially redesigned, with a modern-looking plastic dashboard that moves the instruments directly in front of the driver for a more upscale look.
The electrical system has also been improved, with the old Lucas generator replaced by a more efficient and reliable alternator. The engine used on the Series 2A was retained, a 2.25-liter 4-cylinder for short-wheelbase models. It was slightly modified in 1980, when the number of main bearings was increased from three to five. The engine was renamed "2.3-liter" and produced 71 hp at 4,000 rpm.
