Our Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 was delivered new in the early 2000s for Peugeot Sport as part of its WRC program. It was one of a batch of 10 prepared cars. The car was ordered from the famous tuner Michel Enjolras, who originally purchased it from Mitsubishi Spain.
This model was used as a reconnaissance car by Groholm Pannizzi and Delecour, as well as by Pascal Enjolras as an opener at the start of special stages. It also took part in the RAC in Great Britain. In 2007, it was sold to Christian Domergue for use in a dirt driving school. Its current owner purchased it from him.
As the car was never registered, its production is estimated at between 1998 and 2000. It underwent an extensive mechanical overhaul in 2021/2022, including a new turbocharger. It has 103,000 kilometers on the clock, and is still in excellent working order. It features a Matter roll cage, bucket seats and a host of FIA-compliant equipment. The engine develops around 300 hp and 380 Nm from 3,000 rpm. This Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 is a high-performance model, steeped in the history of Peugeot Sport and the WRC.
In the early 90s, Mitsubishi experienced difficult results, particularly in Group A with the Galant VR4. The brand decided to turn to a smaller, lighter model, the Lancer. Approval of this model required the production of 2,500 units. The first versions of the Lancer Evolution, baptized RS, appeared in competition. Until 1998, when the car won the Manufacturers' World Championship, the Lancer Evolution was produced in 6 generations. The 6th will undoubtedly be the most memorable of all. Introduced in January 1999, the Evo VI benefited from a number of aerodynamic modifications, as well as changes to the WRC regulations.
The front bumper features fog lamps pushed back to the ends, while lift is improved by a new double-blade spoiler. Engine and intercooler cooling are greatly optimized. The reorganization of the cooling circuit offers greater reliability, while the in-line 4-cylinder engine, with its enormous potential, develops around 300 hp. More than 380 Nm are available from 3,000 rpm, offering muscular acceleration, obviously ideal for rally stages. Its reputation precedes it, not least thanks to the 1999 World Rally Championship title. Fans will also be pleased to note that 3 models appeared in the film Taxi.
