Our Renault Dauphine 1090, with 86,000 KM on the odometer, was put on the road in France on June 29, 1960. The current owner acquired it on May 12, 2021.
This model comes in an elegant black hue, complemented by an original red interior with a beautiful patina. The bodywork is in excellent condition, although the chrome bumpers need to be straightened. The on-board instrumentation is in perfect working order, and the overall mechanical condition is beyond reproach.
Under the hood, this Dauphine is powered by a 27-hp 845cm³ engine, combined with a 3-speed manual gearbox (with a non-synchronized first gear). It runs flawlessly. The car has been maintained by vintage specialists, with a complete overhaul carried out in 2023. A recent expert report and all maintenance invoices are available. Consumables are in good condition, and there are no charges to be expected.
The Renault Dauphine, produced from 1956 to 1967, is a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive economy car. The successor to the Renault 4CV, it was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in March 1956. Over two million Dauphines were produced, and its design was reproduced under license abroad. The Dauphine, along with the Citroën 2CV and Volkswagen Beetle, contributed to the emergence of modern European economy cars.
Renault offered several variants of the Dauphine, including the Ondine luxury version, the Gordini sports version and the 1093 racing model. The Dauphine also served as the basis for the Caravelle/Floride coupé and cabriolet. The project began in 1949 under the direction of Fernand Picard and involved intensive road and laboratory testing, totaling over two million kilometers. Renault president Pierre Lefaucheux strongly supported the project before his death in 1955. Pierre Dreyfus then oversaw the launch of the Dauphine.
The car was designed for a top speed of 110km/h, a fuel consumption of less than 7 L/100 km and a seating capacity of four passengers. The exterior and interior design, influenced by feminine opinions on color, was finalized after numerous prototypes and rigorous testing. The Dauphine was finally introduced to the public in 1956.
