Singularity of the car

  • French by birth
  • Carlos Sainz limited edition
  • Mechanical improvements
  • Competition-inspired design

Our Toyota Celica GT4 Carlos Sainz Edition 3482/5000 was delivered new in France and put on the road in 1992. It was bought by its first owner in Corsica for daily use. It has had 4 owners, including the current one since 2020.

This model comes in the famous Castrol livery used for rally models, combined with OZ Racing wheels (with a2nd set supplied). The interior is original, with two-tone fabric and the numbered Carlos Sainz plate.

Mechanically, this Toyota Celica benefited from a complete overhaul by a tuner in 2000. Mechanical components were also modified to increase efficiency and reliability. Improvements were made to the braking system, hoses, suspension (adjustable in all axes) and cooling system (more efficient radiator and fan). The 208 hp, 16-valve 3SGTE engine, combined with a 5-speed gearbox, is fully functional.

All servicing was carried out at a Toyota dealership, then by rally specialists. This car is registered as a collector. A check-up is planned for the sale, including a turbo overhaul.

Historical summary of the model

In 1970, with the Toyota 2000GT looking a little dated, the Japanese brand was keen to find a replacement. Competition was stiff with Nissan unveiling its 240Z. Toyota therefore imagined an affordable coupé, derived from the EX1 prototype. The 1970 Tokyo Motor Show welcomed the Celica, a 2-door, 4-seat coupé based on the Carina. Well received on the market, it evolved rapidly and was entered into competition with numerous versions. Generation followed generation (1977, 1981, 1986) until the arrival of a unique 5th generation in 1990. The Celica T18 retains the same general lines, but adds some curves, in keeping with the bio-design of the time.

It is offered in 2-wheel drive with a 160hp naturally-aspirated 2.0L, or in 4-wheel drive with a 204hp 2.0L Turbo. ABS, twin tailpipes and electric mirrors are standard equipment. As with previous generations, the Celica must be homologated to take part in the World Rally Championship. For this purpose, Toyota produced a special version called "Carlos Sainz" in 1992. The special version features a 208 hp 2.0L turbo engine, 4-wheel drive, a different intercooler and hood, and a lighter bumper. A total of 5,000 units will be sold worldwide.
