Our Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider 1600 was delivered new in France at the beginning of 1965. It has had two owners since the 2000s, including its current owner since 2017.
This model is in remarkable overall condition, thanks in particular to the renovation of aesthetic and mechanical elements. This Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider comes in a new Bianco color scheme, with a renovated black soft top, numerous recently replaced chromes and new black leather upholstery.
Mechanically, our example benefited from a change of engine during its refurbishment. It has the 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter, 92 hp engine of the Giulia TI, combined with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Its operation and performance are intact. It is serviced at the Atelier des pierres dorées. An overhaul is carried out at 58,357 km, with a complete overhaul of the engine, gearbox, axle and brakes. A new battery, overhaul of the electrical systems and cooling radiator are also part of the package.
Our Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider 1600 comes with the following equipment:
In the years following the end of the Second World War, most European countries were in financial difficulty. Brands had to adapt their products to the new trend. Alfa Romeo decided to produce cars on a large scale, with more reasonable engines and lower prices for customers. The Alfa Romeo 1900 made its appearance at the 1950 Paris Motor Show. Produced in Berlina and Sprint versions, it was described by the brand as "The family car that wins races". Powered by a 90 hp 4-cylinder twin-camshaft engine, its engine evolved with the TI (100 hp), Super and TI Super (115 hp) versions, still equipped with a 4-speed manual gearbox, and 5-speed for the Super Sprint versions.
In 1954, a new model called Giulietta was presented at the Turin Motor Show. The first models produced were Sprint coupes, followed a year later by Sedan sedans. Alfa Romeo's first post-war convertible appeared in mid-1955 with the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, built in collaboration with Pininfarina. It was powered by a 4-cylinder 1.3 L engine developing 65 hp, upgraded to 90 hp for the "Veloce" version. Models from 1954 to 1959 were part of the 750 series, which was later discontinued in favor of the 101 series, bringing a number of modifications to the models. Giulietta styling remained unchanged. Spider versions, on the other hand, benefited from a slightly longer wheelbase, larger and stronger camshafts and crankshaft than before to cope with future increases in displacement, and a redesigned gearbox.
A true success, the Giulietta was replaced in 1962 by the Giulia, as Alfa Romeo realized that a more powerful model was needed to remain competitive in the market. The Alfa Romeo Giulia is an upgraded and rebadged model taken directly from its predecessor, the Giulietta. The 4-cylinder 1.3-liter engine has been upgraded to 1.6-liters, delivering between 90 and 100 horsepower. The aesthetic changes between the two models are minor, but more visible on the Spider version of the Giulia. The larger 1600 cm3 engine forces Pininfarina to bulge the Giulia's hood. Still very light, weighing just 900 kilos, the Giulia Spider offered good performance with 92 hp, and 112 hp in its Veloce version. It was one of the most powerful sports cars of its day.
