Revealed in 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show, the DB11 replaces its predecessor, the DB9, which went into production 12 years earlier. Initially presented as a coupé, the Cabriolet version, or Volante for Aston Martin, follows in its footsteps. The two models are very different, particularly in terms of their mechanical characteristics. The DB11 boasts the traditional V12, here with 5.2L displacement and 608 hp, and a version with a 510 hp 4.0L V8. The Volante, on the other hand, is equipped with a V8 engine only.
This version is produced in collaboration with AMG, and offers a small revolution in both aesthetics and mechanics. Aston Martin opted for a very different design from the DB9, allowing the DB11's silhouette to gain in elegance and refinement. The DB9, on the other hand, was much more focused on sportiness and aggressiveness. Two different designs to signify a certain evolution. The canvas soft top, excellently integrated into the design, seems almost an integral part of the bodywork. But as a convertible, Aston Martin had to add reinforcements to stiffen the structure, adding 115 kilograms to the coupé's weight. This weight is quickly recouped thanks to the use of a V8 engine, 110 kg lighter than the V12.
In terms of performance, this V8 is obviously less noble than the V12, but it has some excellent surprises in store. The 4.0L twin-turbo V8 delivers 510 hp, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. Its front mid-engine architecture provides excellent balance and grip in corners. The convertible's agility is astonishing, and its temperament is not lacking - on the contrary. The V8 makes itself heard, enabling the DB11 Volante to offer, in addition to its inevitable English luxury, excellent performance.
