Singularity of the car

The car offered is a 1971 Fiat 500 L delivered in a beautiful white color combined with a light brown interior.

Since 2006, its owner, a leatherworker by profession, has paid particular attention to it. Recently, the owner has carried out a complete interior refurbishment including the seats, the dashboard and the hood.

Powered by a 500cc twin-cylinder engine developing 18 horsepower, it does not exceed 95 km/h. But this modest power is not a problem considering its low weight of 520 kg.

"Fashions come and go, style is eternal", said Yves Saint Laurent so well. The Fiat 500 perfectly embodies the philosophy of the famous French fashion designer with its timeless line, its timeless look and the sympathy capital it exudes.

With its remarkable general condition, its good looks, its efficient mechanics and its typically Italian interior, this first generation of the little Turinese flea has everything you need to immerse yourself in the special atmosphere of the sixties.

Historical summary of the model

We are in the middle of the 50s. While the Vespa was swarming the streets, Fiat took the gamble of putting Italy on four wheels by concocting the same recipe as Citroën with its 2CV or Volkswagen with its Beetle.
In order to attract as many people as possible, the model must be accessible, small and economical. In short, the bare minimum. In 1957, the Nueva 500 left the Turin factory as a completely revised version of the Topolino launched in 1936.

Modest technical characteristics but reliable mechanics for the smallest car in the world (less than 3m long) with a 479 cc twin cylinder placed at the rear, 13 horsepower, air cooling, a gearbox inspired by motorcycles and a consumption announced at 4.5 liters/100 km. A sport version followed in 1958 developing 21 hp as well as a station wagon version, the 500 "gardener" in 1960. Although the 500 struggled to establish itself in the face of competition from the Vespa and other Fiat 600s, it did not miss its entry into the 1960s, which it made its own.

With each successive evolution, the yoghurt pot became more and more gentrified and offered more than acceptable levels of finish for a car of the time. Released in 1968, the Fiat 500 L, for Lusso (Italian for luxury), marked the high point of this gentrification. Available in new colors, it features a coated dashboard, chrome elements, a rectangular meter with a fuel gauge display as well as a sun visor, carpeting on the floor and more comfortable seats.

The success of the Fiat 500 spread beyond the borders of Europe and it became the popular car par excellence. Nearly 4 million units were sold until 1975, and today it has become a true icon and is part of Italy's national heritage.
