Designed by the Scottish Iann Callum, also author of the Aston Martin DB7 and DB9, the Jaguar XK succeeds the XK8 released in the mid-90s. Its curved hips, its front grill and its long hood are reminiscent of the mythical Jaguar E-type. When it came out, it was considered by the press as the worthy heir of the latter.
Initially equipped with a 4.2 V8, it will soon receive a 258 horsepower 3.5 liter V8 to make the sculptural lines of this model more accessible.
Thus, the objective of the XK 3.5 is above all to provide a new sensation mixing comfort, delicacy and sportiness. Indeed, here the power is more suggested, in particular thanks to the sound of the exhaust system characterized by a roar and the most melodious petarades.
As for the transmission, only a 6-speed automatic is available. With a sequential control that can be operated with steering wheel paddles and a sport mode, it allows the 335 Nm of torque and the 258 horsepower of the naturally aspirated V8 to be efficiently exploited.
This engine offers flexibility and full power at all engine speeds, allowing the coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and to reach 243 km/h in a very linear way. As some of the historical British manufacturers could mention in their technical data sheets, we could have been satisfied with calling this performance "sufficient".
