Maserati Quattroporte S Q4 GranSport 2019 - 44 800 km

In the 1960s, Maserati diversified its production. Under the impetus of the Orsi family, the Maserati Quattroporte was launched in 1963. A revolution for the brand, the Quattroporte was the first Maserati to feature 4 doors. It offered comfort and luxury with the performance of a GT engine.

The design is by Pietro Frua, clearly inspired by the 5000 GT coupé that he himself designed in a single example. The monocoque body is an imposing five meters long, weighing in at 1,800 kilos. Nevertheless, the 260 hp of the 4136 cm3 V8 are enough to take the Quattroporte to 220 km/h. The 5-speed ZF gearbox was combined with a new engine option in 1969, the 4.7-liter V8 from the Ghibli. A second version was presented at the Paris and Geneva Motor Shows, the Quattroporte of the Citroën era. The big change was that the V8 engine was replaced by a 190-hp 3.0L V6, and the Quattroporte became a front-wheel-drive car. Its size is even more impressive, with a wheelbase of three meters and a length of 5.13 meters. A step down from its predecessor, this version will be discontinued. Only thirteen Quattroporte models were built.

1976 saw the return of the Quattroporte, this time developed by the expert hands of Alessandro De Tomaso and Giugiaro. The Turin Motor Show welcomed the new version with Maserati's 4.2-liter V8. In 1981, it received the 4.9-liter V8, developing 270 hp. The 2-tonne weight was no longer a problem, thanks to the increased power, which enabled it to reach speeds of up to 230 km/h. Nicknamed the transalpine Rolls-Royce, the third version of the Quattroporte saw no fewer than 2,141 examples built. The fourth version appeared in 1994, following the takeover of Maserati by the Fiat group, thanks to the pencil of Marcello Gandini. As successful as ever, the Quattroporte was produced for a ^5th and ^6thgeneration, breaking with the past thanks in particular to more sensual lines designed by Pininfarina. The V8 engine is now associated with the base version, with no less than 400 hp. The Quattroporte is voted the world's fastest sedan, with a top speed of 273 km/h, surpassed only by the Bentley Continental GT Flying Spur.

In 2018, after more than 55 years in existence, the Maserati Quattroporte returns with a new version featuring the 2016 restyling, the SQ4 GranSport. With a 410-hp twin-turbo V6, a top speed of 283 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 sec, the latest-generation Quattroporte doesn't skimp on performance, while retaining the model's characteristic luxury. Dimensions are as large as ever, while the bodywork becomes very aggressive thanks to a long, curved hood. The headlamps are slimmer and the fenders feature Maserati's aesthetic signature: three gills reminiscent of the exhaust outlets on previous models. The interior is more than generous in terms of space, both for the driver and passengers. The adjustable steering wheel is perfectly complemented by carbon paddles, a central console with display and optional full-carbon personalization. This S Q4 GranSport honors its badge and continues the Maserati 4-door tradition.
