Peugeot, Renault and Volvo joined forces and, in response to strong demand, produced an equally reliable car offering a better driving experience.
Launched in early 1977, this Peugeot 504 is of French origin. It has passed through the hands of 4 different owners to date, with its current owner acquiring it on March 23, 2023. A few wear and tear defects are visible, but are very slight. The "golden green" paintwork is in excellent condition.
The interior is in generally good condition. A few points need to be repaired: two seams need to be repaired on the seats, a small crack is visible on the gearshift console, a chrome trim on the driver's side door is missing, and the velour on the cognac-brown seats shows some signs of wear. Apart from these few defects, all components are fully functional and in good condition. The on-board instrumentation is operational, with a slight contact fault on the heater accessory lighting.
Mechanically, this Peugeot 504 exudes health. Its 136 hp V6 engine operates normally and develops its power without difficulty. The Peugeot 504 V6, an emblematic creation of the Peugeot brand, marks a significant milestone in the history of the French automobile. Initially conceived as a robust family sedan, the 504 evolved to include a V6-powered variant, thus enriching its range. This specific model, unveiled in the 1970s, was designed in response to the growing demand for more comfortable, high-performance vehicles.
The Peugeot 504 was first introduced in 1968, presenting itself as a spacious, comfortable and reliable vehicle. It was designed by Aldo Brovarone of Pininfarina, a figure renowned in the automotive industry for his work with prestigious marques. The 504 was initially equipped with a four-cylinder engine, but over the years demand for more power and refinement led to the development of the 504 V6.
The V6 engine, introduced in the 504 in 1974, was the result of a collaboration between Peugeot, Renault and Volvo, known as PRV (Peugeot-Renault-Volvo). This 2.7-liter (2664 cm³) engine was a 90-degree V6 with light-alloy cylinder heads, offering significantly more power than previous four-cylinder engines. The engine developed around 136 hp (100 kW), enabling the 504 to achieve even better performance.
The Peugeot 504 V6 was not limited to a single body style. It was available as a coupé and a cabriolet, both versions also the work of Pininfarina. These variants were not only aesthetically appealing, but also offered an enhanced driving experience thanks to the new V6 engine.
The Peugeot 504 V6 has enjoyed notable success both in the European market and in export markets, particularly in Africa. Its robustness and reliability have made it a popular choice in many countries with difficult road conditions.
