Singularity of the car

  • Full catering
  • History over several years
  • Carte grise collection

Our Chevrolet Camaro RS 327 was delivered new in the USA in 1968. It was imported into France in 2020, and has subsequently had two owners, including the current French owner at the end of 2023.

This example, restored in 2019 in the USA, is in remarkable condition. The bodywork has been fully restored and shows no signs of corrosion. The completely redone black leatherette interior perfectly matches the Corvette Bronze exterior. Chrome, wheels, bodywork, pillar opening and all interior elements are in perfect condition. Only the door armrests need to be redone to obtain an example in concours condition.

Our Chevrolet Camaro RS 327 works perfectly. The 275-hp, 5.4-liter V8 and 4-speed manual gearbox continue to deliver impressive performance. Numerous invoices since its arrival in France attest to its serious maintenance. The latest roadworthiness test, carried out on July 19, 2023, is clean.

Historical summary of the model

In the 1960s, rivalry between American automotive groups such as Ford and General Motors was at its height. The release of the Ford Mustang in 1964 was a real success, and a further opportunity to rekindle the rivalry. Chevrolet decided to retaliate and developed its own "Pony-car", the Camaro. These were produced until 1969 in coupe and convertible versions, equipped with a multitude of engines, from 140 hp in-line 6s to generously cubed V8s. The first Camaro was produced on September 29, 1966 for the 1967 model year. It borrowed some elements from the Pontiac Firebird, marketed by General Motors at the same time.

The Pony Car was a great success, selling no less than 230,000 units by 1969. Although it lagged behind its Mustang competitor, which had already been on the market for 2 years, the Camaro nevertheless had an impact on Ford sales. In 1966, 607,000 Mustangs were sold. This figure fell to 472,000 units in 1967, and only 317,000 in 1968.

Some versions of the Camaro stand out from the crowd, such as the 327 RS, with its 275 hp 5.4 L V8, or the Camaro SS with its 375 hp V8 big block.

Unimaginable in this day and age, the 1969 Camaro offered countless customizations, with no fewer than 12 different engines, a choice of manual or automatic transmission and a wide selection of body configurations.
