In 1959, a new Jaguar was unveiled at the Earls Court Motor Show. As soon as the doors opened, the crowd flocked to the Jaguar stand to discover the replacement for the now-named "Mark I". The Jaguar MK II retained many similarities with its predecessor, but offered a more spacious interior, exterior design modifications and an engine available in 3 different power ratings. Considered the luxury model par excellence, its success was immediate, with production reaching nearly 84,000 units.

This Jaguar MK II was launched in 1962. Purchased in France, it passed through the hands of just three owners. This example is configured in a sky-blue color combined with a red leather and wood interior. Overall condition is excellent. There are no major defects on the bodywork, and the paintwork was given a complete overhaul in 2023. Chrome is in excellent condition. Inside, this Jaguar has new red leather upholstery in very good condition. It is combined with a steering wheel and a wood-panelled dashboard. Its overall condition is remarkable for its age. The on-board instrumentation is fully functional.

On the mechanical side, this model has benefited from extensive work to keep it in good working order. A thorough overhaul will be carried out until July 2023. The following components have been refurbished:

  • Engine, gearbox and transmission overhaul
  • Cylinder head facing
  • New alternator, fan, coil, platinum-plated screws, ignition pin and delco head
  • New condenser, belt, spark plugs, ignition wiring harness, fuel pump, air, oil and fuel filters
  • New mastervac brakes and mastervac clutches
  • 5 new tires

All mechanical components are in excellent working order. The 3.4 L, in-line 6-cylinder engine starts normally and is faultless when driving. The Moss 4-speed gearbox + overdrive works perfectly. It has 110,000 kilometers on the odometer, not guaranteed. The car is suitable for everyday use. It is serviced by classic specialists. It has an extensive service history. No costs are involved.

Historical summary of the model

The Jaguar MK2, introduced in 1959, is an iconic model from British carmaker Jaguar. The successor to the Jaguar Mark 1, this luxury sedan was designed to combine performance and elegance, in response to the growing demand for comfortable yet powerful vehicles during this period.

On the technical front, the Jaguar MK2 was available with three in-line six-cylinder XK engine options, all with double overhead camshafts. The first was a 2.4-liter producing 120 hp (89 kW) at 5,750 rpm, with maximum torque of 159 Nm at 3,000 rpm. The second, a 3.4-liter, produced 210 hp (157 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 280 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. The most powerful engine was a 3.8-liter, delivering 220 hp (164 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 315 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. These engines were coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox, with optional overdrive, or to a Borg-Warner automatic gearbox.

The MK2 featured several improvements over the Mark 1, including a more spacious cabin, improved visibility thanks to enlarged windows, and a slightly modified exterior design. The car was 4,770 mm long, 1,690 mm wide, with a wheelbase of 2,740 mm. Weight ranged from 1,470 kg to 1,620 kg, depending on model and equipment.

In terms of performance, the MK2 3.8 could reach a top speed of 125 mph (201 km/h) and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) in around 8.5 seconds. Four-wheel disc brakes, a rarity at the time, offered superior stopping power, particularly appreciated given the vehicle's high performance.

Production of the Jaguar MK2 lasted from 1959 to 1967. In all, some 83,976 units were produced, with the majority equipped with the 3.4L engine. The MK2 was highly appreciated for its use in motor racing, not least because of its combination of power, handling and efficient braking. It also gained notoriety in popular culture, appearing in numerous films and TV series.

The Jaguar MK2 has gone down in history as a symbol of 1960s elegance and performance, significantly influencing the design of luxury sports sedans in the decades that followed.
