The solution came in the form of a man, Romano Artioli, and a car, the first Lotus Elise. Named after Artioli's granddaughter, the Elise continues the Lotus tradition of having a name beginning with the letter E.
Just 30 centimeters longer than a Twingo 1, the Lotus Elise S1 is a roadster with extremely compact dimensions that is unique because of its aerospace-inspired bonded aluminum monocoque chassis. In short, the Elise marks a return to the brand's roots and the original philosophy of Colin Chapman, its founder, offering a perfect combination of lightness and rigidity.
The proposed car is a 2001 Elise S2. It inherits a much more assertive design than the S1, with sharp lines. But the most distinctive element of its design is the appearance of a large opening on the sides, replacing the old small air intakes.
