Singularity of the car

The model presented here is painted in British Racing Green with a cream interior. Recognizable by its rear spoiler, by the air intakes of its front bumper flush with the wheel arch, as well as its OZ wheels in 15 inches at the front and 16 inches at the rear, this Esprit SE is in an irreproachable aesthetic and mechanical condition. It has 98,000 kilometers on the clock and has recently undergone a dyno test, which showed that it still has all of its 264 horsepower.

An atypical design, a unique philosophy and an extremely commendable performance, such are the qualities of this Lotus Esprit SE, which also benefits from an irreproachable condition and a limpid follow-up.

Historical summary of the model

The Lotus Esprit, the result of an order made to Ital Design by Colin Chapman to create a two-seater sedan with a central rear engine, was presented in 1972 at the Geneva Motor Show and produced from 1975.

Recognizable by its taut lines and prominent edges, its design by Giorgetto Giugiaro is deeply rooted in the seventies. With a beam chassis from the Lotus Europe, an aluminum body and a 2-liter 160 horsepower four-cylinder engine inherited from the Jensen-Healey, the Lotus Esprit S1 has reinvented itself over the decades, giving it a longevity of nearly 30 years.

The major change in the life of the Lotus Esprit takes place with the arrival of the MKIV or S4, seeing its power increase significantly. It also underwent a major restyling in order to update a design that was certainly brilliant, but too evocative of the 70s.

The brief from the Lotus teams led by Peter Stevens (best known for designing the legendary McLaren F1 car) was to soften the sharp edges of the original design, while preserving its taut lines. The new front and rear fascias, as well as the lower bodywork with integrated air intakes, give the S4 a much more modern and attractive design.

The model offered is a 1991 Lotus Esprit SE. Her notable appearances in the films Pretty Woman and Basic Instinct made her a movie star, giving her immediate popularity.

In addition to its popularity, the SE released in 1989 benefits from a significant increase in power compared to the 1987 S4, thanks in particular to an all-new electronic fuel injection system, now boasting a total of 264 horsepower, assisted by an overboost allowing it to enjoy an additional 20 horsepower over a period of 30 seconds, thus rivaling the Honda NSX and other Ferrai 348.
