The proposed model is a 1974 BMW 3.0 CSI delivered in a beautiful dark blue metallic coupled with superb original 15 inch wheels and a beautiful Camel interior. It is equipped with a 4 speed manual transmission. Fully sandblasted, repainted and restored between 2014 and 2015, it has 36,000 miles on it and is in impeccable mechanical, interior and exterior condition.
Ultimately, the CS models and more specifically the 3.0 CSI model have really allowed BMW to become a leading brand in terms of comfort, sportiness and performance. BMW par excellence, this CSI fully restored in the spirit of the 70's displays an excellent general condition extremely rare for this model and a contained mileage.
At the beginning of the 1950s, the range of the propeller brand made the great difference between top-of-the-range cars (such as the 503 coupe, or the 3200 CS signed Bertone), not very profitable because of a low volume of production and small cars intended for a German people with limited purchasing power at the end of the second world war.
It is with the 2000CS and its in-line four-cylinder that BMW managed to reach a wider public and thus to get out of the water.
In 1968, BMW presents at the Frankfurt Motor Show 3 new models using the mechanics of the E3 sedans equipped with six 3.0 liter cylinders and the bodywork of the 2000 CS coupes. Named E9, the 2500, 2800 and 2800CS assembled by Karmann nevertheless underwent deep aesthetic modifications compared to the 2000 CS. Starting with a shark nose front end, cat's eye headlights and a front hood extended by 13 centimeters to accommodate the new inline six called "M30". This engine block will equip many models of the Bavarian brand until the M5 E34. It will even develop 750 horsepower in a turbocharged version equipping the BMW M1 Procar of competition.
In 1971, the 3.0 CS and its 2985 cc engine replaced the 2800 CS, with 10 more horsepower, reaching 180. In addition, the 3.0 CS made a real technological leap forward, being equipped with four-corner disc brakes, self-leveling suspension, a front anti-roll bar and a self-locking differential.
In the third quarter of the same year, the 3.0 CSI appeared, equipped with a new Bosch injection system instead of the two carburetors of the 3.0 CS, allowing it to display 200 horsepower, to run from 0 to 100 in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 220 km/h. These performances are clearly improving and will give a hard time to the 280SL and other transalpine competitors, but they are still below the sporty standards imposed by Porsche. In fact, despite an excellent chassis known for its rigidity, the coupe weighs 1400kg and has soft shock absorbers, which are more suitable for touring than for sports use.
