The Porsche Boxster 981 GTS is the latest in a long line of sports cars from the famous German brand Porsche. To trace its origins, it's essential to go back to the first generation Boxster, the 986, launched in 1996. It marked Porsche's entry into the mid-range sports convertible segment, positioned below the 911, while offering a dynamic driving experience.
In 2012, Porsche introduced the third generation of the Boxster, named 981. This model stood out for its more refined design, advanced technology and enhanced performance. It continued the evolution of the Boxster, while marking a breakthrough in terms of engineering and aesthetics.
In 2014, the GTS variant of the Boxster 981 was presented to the world. This name, "GTS" (for Gran Turismo Sport), has historical significance for Porsche. First used on the Porsche 904 Carrera GTS in 1963, it designates models that offer optimized performance, yet are suitable for everyday use.
Under the hood of the Boxster 981 GTS was a naturally-aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine, producing 330 hp (243 kW) and 370 Nm of torque. This engine block was mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, although buyers could opt for Porsche's seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.
The Boxster 981 GTS accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds with the manual gearbox, and in 4.7 seconds with the PDK gearbox, reaching a top speed of 281 km/h.
From a technical point of view, the Boxster 981 GTS was also distinguished by its sporty chassis settings, its 20 mm lowered suspension, and the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system offering adaptable driving dynamics.
Externally, the GTS was recognizable by specific features such as black Bi-Xenon headlamps, wider front air intakes and a distinctive "GTS" badge on the doors. Inside, driver and passenger were welcomed by Alcantara sports seats, with embroidered GTS logos on the headrests.
