In 2009, Ferrari decided to use this mythical name for its new convertible. The Ferrari California becomes the first model of the Cavallino brand to have a V8 in the front position. This sacrilege will bring some criticism to the brand, quickly forgotten in view of the accuracy of the model.
From the outset, the latest California has lived up to its heritage. Designed by Pininfarina and assembled by Scaglietti, the Spider has convinced the ferrarists while developing a new clientele, attracted by its price, less expensive than usual in Maranello.
Seductive and refined, the California has all the assets of a true prancing horse, starting with its engine. A naturally-aspirated 4.3-liter V8 that develops 460 horsepower. A horsepower per liter ratio that speaks volumes about its performance.
As flexible as it is fast, this engine with its bewitching sound reaches 8,000 rpm without a second thought and offers supercar-like performance, going from 0 to 100 in less than 4 seconds and reaching more than 310km/h in top speed. We regret the absence of a mechanical gearbox on the model, but we must admit that the F1 dual-clutch robotized gearbox has an irreproachable speed and fluidity.
