The Ferrari California was launched in 2008 at the Paris Motor Show. This car, defined as a 2+2 grand tourer with retractable roof, was part of Ferrari's drive to attract new customers looking for a combination of performance and everyday versatility. In 2012, Ferrari introduced the updated version, dubbed the "California30", offering significant improvements in performance and efficiency.
The California 30 is powered by a 4.3-liter V8 engine. This unit has been upgraded to produce 490 hp at 7750 rpm and 505 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm. The vehicle is equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
One of the strong points of the California 30 is its weight reduction. Thanks to the extensive use of aluminum in its construction and other improvements, the car's weight has been reduced by 30 kg, giving a total kerb weight of 1735 kg. These improvements translate into a significant improvement in performance. The California 30 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. The suspension has also been revised, with the adoption of new front suspension geometries and the use of magneto-rheological (MagneRide) shock absorbers, enabling faster response and better handling.
Aesthetically, the California 30 remains faithful to the original California design, with a few minor modifications. The hard retractable roof, one of the flagship features, allows a transition from coupe to convertible in just 14 seconds. With the update, Ferrari has also worked on fuel efficiency, improving the direct injection system and optimizing engine management. These adjustments have resulted in lower CO2 emissions and improved fuel consumption.
