Unveiled in 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show, the Ferrari F12 embodied the culmination of the Ferrari GT lineage with a two-seat architecture and a central front V12. Initiated in the 1950s by the 250 GT and GTO, it was perpetuated by the 365 GTB4, the 575 M and the 599 GTB. With 740 horsepower, a 0 to 100 in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 340 km/h, the F12 has lived up to its heritage by becoming the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever produced.
Its design by Pininfarina was the subject of 250 hours of work in the wind tunnel, allowing it to benefit from an excellent aerodynamic support of 123 kg at 200 km/h. This is 76% more than its predecessor, the 599 GTB. All this without having to resort to unobtrusive appendages that can sometimes spoil beautiful lines.
The F12 also has a new platform designed by the bodybuilder Scaglietti. Both 60 kg lighter and 20% stiffer than the 599, the F12 and its aluminum chassis and body also have a slightly smaller footprint than its predecessor. 4.7 cm shorter, 2 cm less wide and 6.3 cm less high.
However, one element has resisted this general shrinking... the engine. An atmospheric V12 used on the Ferrari Enzo and the Ferrari FF in a version realised at 6.3 liters of displacement. With a direct injection system, the engine of the F12 reaches 740 horsepower and an output of 118 horsepower per liter. An example of flexibility, it has a maximum torque of 690 nm at 6000 rpm, available at 80% from 2500 rpm.
More generally, flexibility is a key element of the F12. Designed for everyday use, its compact size, excellent visibility and light, incisive steering make it perfectly usable in everyday life. A surprising docility for such a sporty car.
