This confidential production did not prevent the owner of the car we are offering from using it as a daily driver. This 1969 911 2.0 E in a lead grey color has been imported from the USA and proudly displays the imprint of time on its bodywork. The robust and proven mechanics of the car are in good working order and run perfectly.
The coupe is designed to be driven and not to be displayed. Its bodywork shows some flaws such as slight corrosion on the rear hood, as well as superficial rust on the right front fender. Some of its parts are not original, such as its rims which are reproductions of Fuchs rims, its steering wheel or its mirrors which are better adapted to daily use than the original ones. The original mileage counter has also been changed and shows 175,000 kilometers.
Some parts are new or have undergone recent restorations such as the headliner, the rear upholstery, the wiper motor or the gas tank.
Sure, the car is not entirely true to the original and probably makes many purists cringe, but ultimately, what better way to respect the legend of a 911 than by using it? That's the philosophy of Magnus Walker, a famous Porsche enthusiast and collector who signed the "Urban Outlaw" sticker on the car's driver's door.
This 911 2.0 E with its 9-second 0-60 time certainly doesn't compare to modern 911s when it comes to performance, but it perfectly embodies the definition of a fun car. Its rear overhung flat-six delivers the cavernous sound typical of old 911s and its oversteer behavior allows you to enjoy the thrill of the ride without having to reach unmentionable speeds.
With more than 10,000 units sold in the space of five years, the first 911 quickly became a reference in the grand touring sports coupe segment. Efficient and versatile, the 911 nevertheless inherited a particularly complex handling, lacking stability at high speeds and having a strong tendency to oversteer.
In 1968, the engineers at Zuffenhausen decided to increase the wheelbase of the 911 to compensate for its delicate handling. An increase of only 6 centimeters which will allow the 911 to gain in stability and to correct in a notable way its road holding in curve.
It is also in 1968 that the 911 2.0 L of 130 horsepower will be replaced by the 911 2.0 E for "Einspritz" meaning injection in German. It will gain 10 horses in the operation and will thus develop the power of 140 horses at the rpm of 6500.
As far as its design is concerned, only a few elements distinguish it from the previous model, such as its rear fenders widened to accommodate larger wheels.
Produced for only one year between 1968 and 1969, the 911 2.0 E sold less than 2,826 units in all body styles, and this figure even drops to 1,968 for the coupe models. This makes it one of the rarest Porsche Classic cars.
