In the years 1970-1980, the 911 goes through a dark period. The boss of Porsche, Ernst Fuhrmann, wanted to bury the car. In 1978, the German brand merges two models of 911, the 2.7 and the Carrera 3.0, signing the birth of the 911 SC. The power drops on a model that is identical to the Carrera 3.0, with the steering wheel of the 2.7. The 911 SC will often be ordered with the optional 3-spoke steering wheel of the Turbo.mechanically, the 911 SC is less powerful but more torquey and offers greater flexibility. The '79 and '80 vintages will undergo modifications to meet the demands of customers, the 3-spoke steering wheel will be adopted as basic equipment, the center console modified, the Targa roll bar taken over in black and the power will be increased to 188hp with a decrease in consumption.
In 1981, the SC version got 204 hp and came close to the performance of the 3.2. Despite the noticeable difference in driving feel, the SC provides the expected pleasure of a 911 and proves to be a good model at the time, and a real icon nowadays.
