More reliable and much better protected against corrosion than its predecessor, the 2.7, the 911 SC launched in 1977 became particularly interesting from 1980 onwards, when power leapt to 204 hp from 180 hp and then 188 hp. Less heavy than its successor, the Carrera 3.2, the SC is also quicker on the revs, thanks to a racier engine. It's also much less expensive (and just as powerful) than a Carrera 2.7 or a Carrera 3.0 of the same era.
This Porsche 911 SC was launched on March 15, 1983. Originating from Luxembourg, this car benefits from rare and coveted options such as the self-locking differential, Ruby Red metallic paint (only offered for 1 year on SCs) and the Pasha interior (which will no longer be offered from the end of 1983).
The car we are offering for sale was purchased by its current owner in May 2018. It runs regularly, and is presented in its used condition: very sound, but not perfect. The trunk floor, structure and engine bay are free of corrosion. A little work will restore its lustre: aligning and painting the bumpers, and repairing a spot of rust on the windscreen bay. No perforating or structural rust. The interior, in a very rare beige Pasha velvet, boasts a number of interesting options, such as a cassette range and additional heating. Note that the left rear seat-back flange needs replacing, and a seam on the passenger seat needs re-sewing. The odometer shows 100,500 kilometers for 285,000 real and verifiable kilometers, thanks in particular to technical inspection records.
Mechanically, this Porsche 911 SC is in excellent working order. An overhaul of the engine, running gear, clutch and ignition, carried out in 2012, allows the mechanics to take all its turns and breathe health. Its 204 hp flat 6 3.0l engine features hydraulic chain tensioners for the 3.2L engine, helping to improve performance and reliability. No abnormal noises to be noted.
Numerous invoices are available. A spark plug replacement, new battery, oil change and filter replacement were carried out in August 2023. Pirelli tires were installed in 2020. These tires have covered 10,000 km and the clutch was changed 20,000 km ago. The costs to be incurred are as follows: gearbox adjustment - brake fluid replacement - muffler replacement in the medium term - paintwork renovation for competition condition - passenger seat renovation.
Here are the options and equipment available for this Porsche 911 SC :
- Right-hand mirror
- Front fog lamps
- Rear window wiper
- Ruby Red metallic paint
- Velvet Pascha beige
- Radio pre-equipped with antenna and 2 HP (but a radio was later fitted)
- Self-locking
- Rear spoiler + front lip
- Additional heating system
The 1983 Porsche 911 SC represents a remarkable milestone in the history of luxury sports cars. This special variant of the Porsche 911 was introduced in the 1980s, combining the elegance and performance characteristic of the Porsche brand with design elements and technical improvements inspired by the 911 Turbo.
On the technical front, the Porsche 911 SC was equipped with the 3.0-liter flat 6-cylinder boxer engine. This engine was capable of producing 204 horsepower, offering robust and reliable performance. The transmission was a 5-speed manual, designed to provide an engaging and responsive driving experience. One of the most distinctive aspects of this 911 SC was its exterior design, which borrowed the Turbo's "whale-tail" rear spoiler and wider Fuchs wheels. These modifications were not just aesthetic; they also improved the vehicle's stability and aerodynamic performance.
Inside, the 911 SC offered a high level of finish and comfort, in line with Porsche standards. Sport seats, high-quality interior trim and full instrumentation reflected the luxury and performance that customers have come to expect from Porsche.
Historically speaking, the 911 SC follows in the tradition of Porsche's special models, which often served as testing grounds for new technologies and design concepts. Although not as powerful as the 911 Turbo of the same era, it offered a more accessible alternative, while sharing many design and performance characteristics with that iconic model. In terms of production, the 911 SC was a limited edition, which contributed to its exclusive character. The models produced in 1983 are today considered collectors' items by classic car enthusiasts and collectors.
In short, the 1983 Porsche 911 SC is a key model in the evolution of the Porsche brand, offering a unique balance of design, performance and luxury. It represents an important chapter in the history of the 911, a model line that continues to evolve and inspire car enthusiasts worldwide.
