The proposed model is a Porsche 991 Speedster. In 2019, as its production is coming to an end, the Porsche 991 also offers a Speedster variation using many elements of the 991 GT3 and Carrera 4 S convertible chassis. This ultra exclusive model has 1948 copies (about 40 for France) in tribute to the year of creation of the brand.
The model follows the precepts of the 1988 Speedster, with the removal of the rear seats, a 50 mm lower windscreen, a reduction in the surface area of the side windows and the continuation of the mythical double hump hood cover. Speedster cars have always been "purist" cars and this 991 version has pushed the principle to the extreme. It is equipped with the fabulous 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six of the 991 GT3, slightly revised to offer 510 horsepower at 8,400 rpm. The breaker only intervenes at 9,000 rpm, conferring at this speed, a roar without equal.
It also has the excellent six-speed H-transmission, known for its short throw and firm but not excessive locking. It also benefits from a major slimming treatment with carbon front fenders and hood and a 10 kg lighter "sport" exhaust system.
The car is delivered in a "Heritage Design" package with a sublime two-tone paint job as well as golden badges and customizable numbers on the hood and doors. The car has only 500 kilometers on the odometer and is in new condition. An absolute rarity, a great face, an inimitable sound, a feeling of "everything in the back", the 991 Speedster manages to combine all these qualities without any false note.
The history of the Posrche Speedster (a contraction of the terms speed and roadster) began in 1953. Established since 1950 through an American importer specializing in European vehicles, Maximilian E. Hoffman, Porsche was so successful in the United States that it exported half of its production there.
The Zuffenhausen-based company listened carefully to Hoffman, who was known to understand and feel the mood of the times and the desires of his compatriots. In 1953, he suggested to the brand to design a simple, powerful and affordable model to compete with the numerous American roadsters of the time.
Based on the bodywork of the Porsche 356 America Roadster produced a year earlier, the 356 Speedster has a slightly redesigned two-seater silhouette and a stripped-down package (lowered windshield, plastic side windows, thin hood, thin buckets, no glove box). A rudimentary comfort allowing the Speedster to lighten many kilos in order to offer top performances. Its 4 cylinders will even propel it to 200km/h at the end of its production, an impressive speed for the time. Traded for 3000 US dollars at the time (30,000 dollars today), the roadster was a great commercial success, selling over 4000 units.
30 years later, the 911 type G revived the legend of the Speedster. In 1989, in the twilight of its career, it was given a version called the 911 Carrera 3.2 Speedster, taking up the codes of its ancestor: two seats, stripped interior, and lowered windscreen. Available exclusively with a manual gearbox, it was the first of the line to introduce the emblematic double-humped shell that covers the canvas top. Despite the high price, the model was a real success, especially in its Turbo Look version with a large kit.
The 964 speedster was a failure, causing Porsche to shun the tradition until the Porsche 997. Produced in 356 copies as a tribute to the first speedster model, it celebrates the 25th anniversary of Porsche's exclusive division and is equipped with a 408 horsepower engine and the wider tracks of the Carrera 4.
