Our Porsche 911 type 901 was delivered new in Germany and put on the road in April 1967. It was imported into France in 1968. It has 129,500 km on the clock. In good general condition, it has remained in the hands of its current owner for no less than 27 years. It has been owned by a specialist classic car garage and by Porsche, and has a substantial file of invoices.
This 901 has benefited from extensive work: its paintwork has been redone, and its bearings, clutch, flywheel, silentblock and suspension ball joint were changed in 2021. It also benefits from new upholstery and a new steering wheel with the originals available. Its engine was rebuilt on the basis of the 911 S 2.0 l engine in a Porsche Classic-approved specialist garage, with an invoice of €18,000. An engine oil change, oil filter replacement and carburetor adjustment were carried out in 2021.
With a clean MOT dating from May 2024, the car is mechanically flawless. In a white color with an orange stripe, accompanied by a black interior with velvet seats and 15-inch fuchs wheels, this beautiful 901, the first 911 model, is the ideal car to enjoy Porsche know-how in all its splendor.
In 1948, Porsche was a newly created brand. It would enter the automobile market in a concrete way with the release of the first Porsche in history, the Type 356. Designed on the mechanical basis of a Volkswagen Beetle, it was available in coupe and cabriolet versions and earned Porsche a solid reputation for its manufacturing quality.
In 1963, after 15 years of existence of the 356, Porsche unveils a new model, the mythical 911. Although it was to be called 901 at the time of its conception, the brand had to give up this name because of the rights held by Peugeot on the numbers with a central zero. The 911 type 901 then made its appearance.
Equipped with a 2-liter Flat 6 in the rear position combined with air cooling, it develops a unique sound that will contribute to the image of the 911. From 1965 until 1972, it will be declined in different models including the Porsche 912, 911 E, 911 T and 911 S. The competition version called Carrera RS will see the day in 1972.
