At the beginning of the 1990s, Porsche's financial situation wasn't exactly rosy. Despite the success of the 911, the German brand was not selling enough cars. In 1996, Porsche unveiled a new model designed as a two-seater roadster. Initially equipped with a 2.5-liter engine producing 204 hp (150 kW) and a top speed of 240 km/h, the Boxster 986 evolved over time. In 2000, engine capacity was increased to 2.7 liters for the base model, now named Boxster 2.7, with a power output of 220 hp (162 kW). In the same year, the Boxster S model was introduced with a 252 hp (185 kW) 3.2-liter engine, capable of reaching 260 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Inspired by the 550 Spyder, the 718 and the 914, the Boxster became a mainstay of the brand.
