The third generation of the 911, the Type 964 inherits a design that is largely reminiscent of its predecessor. And yet, it embodies a real renewal, with a concentration of technological innovations and modernity.
The latter has no less than 85% new parts compared to the G-type. The 964 Carrera 4 is the first production Porsche to be equipped with an all-wheel drive system taken from the 959 used in Group B and the 961 in endurance racing. Two models dedicated to competition embodying the flagship of the Stuttgart brand.
It is also the first of the brand to benefit from the ABS system and power steering as standard. The price of all these innovations, which considerably improve comfort and safety on board, is paid on the scales. The carrera 2 has an unladen weight of 1529kg, due in large part to its all-wheel drive system. The carrera 2 marketed 1 year later will mitigate this weakness.
Powered by a 3.6-liter 250 hp flat-six mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox (G54) or an optional Tiptronic gearbox, it accelerates from 0 to 100 in 5.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 257 km/h.
