Our Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet was delivered new and put on the road in 1992 in Germany. It has had 5 owners, including its current French owner since 2023.
This example is in excellent overall condition. In Ametysth Metallic, combined with Magenta leather interior, 17-inch Cup wheels and Magenta fabric soft top, it is flawless and stands out for its impeccable aesthetics.
Its mechanical performance reflects its aesthetic state. The 250 hp 3.6L flat-6 engine, combined with the 5-speed manual gearbox, works perfectly. The history of the various jobs can be consulted thanks to the presence of numerous invoices. Consumables are in good condition. Note the presence of a Porsche Classic Car radio offering CarPlay functionality and more.
Here are the options and equipment available on this model:
At the end of the 70s, the Porsche 911 was called into question by Porsche management. It was preferred to the PMA (Porsche Front Engine) models such as the 924 and 928, with a structure more likely to appeal in the future. The Carrera 3.2 was one of the models that saved the 911, boosting its sales numbers and interest in the eyes of management. The 964 generation, unveiled in 1988, played a key role in the 911's future. Presented at the Paris Motor Show in September, the 964's lines were virtually unchanged, with the exception of the front and rear fascias. Speedline 16-inch wheels replace the legendary Fuchs, but no further changes are visible.
Yet the 964 is 87% new. All mechanical parts have been modified, starting with the Flat 6. For the Carrera 4 version, displacement has been increased to 3.6 L and power to 250 hp. The gearbox was upgraded and coded G64, while the running gear was completely revised, electronics were introduced and the transmission was permanently all-wheel drive. All these changes radically alter the 911's behavior, making it a more relaxed, more accessible version of the car. Yet the mythical behavior is never far away, just one pedal stroke away.
The Cabriolet version of the 964 Carrera 4 was launched a few years later, in 1990, to accompany the Targa version. It featured a fabric soft top with a plastic rear window, and was fully automatic. Production of the Porsche 964 was discontinued in 1994, enabling the 911 to survive a difficult period.
