Singularity of the car

  • Only 100 copies in France
  • Very good condition
  • French by birth

Our Porsche 944 Turbo Cup was delivered new in France and put on the road on January 28, 1988. It has had 4 owners since then, including its current owner since 2005.

Sold in only 100 examples in France, this example is in excellent overall condition. In a special Silver Rose Metallic color, combined with Fuchs forged magnesium alloy wheels and Burgundy plaid seats, this Porsche 944 Turbo Cup is perfectly preserved.

All engine servicing is carried out in a Porsche Centre. Numerous invoices are available. The last service was carried out in winter 2024 at the Centre Porsche Grenoble.

Historical summary of the model

In 1976, Porsche introduced a new model, the 924. Equipped with a front engine, the 924 was quickly followed by the 928 two years later. The front-engine V8 architecture, in total opposition to the 911 philosophy, was well received by customers. These new models were the brainchild of Ernst Fuhrmann, then head of Porsche, to break away from the 911 monoculture.

Ernst Fuhrmann, rather reluctant to extend production of the 911, considered replacing it with the 928 and V8 front-engine models. This decision comes at the same time as a drop in 911 sales and a series of global changes, including rising oil prices and growing public concern about ecology and safety. This decision did not go down well with customers, and history will record the return of the 911 in force. Front-engined Porsches did not disappear, however, and continued on their way. In 1982, the 924 was replaced by the 944. All the shortcomings of the 924 were eliminated, from build quality to handling and interior space. The major difference was in the engine. The old V8 engine produced in collaboration with Audi is replaced by a 4-cylinder derived from the 928's V8. A 100% Porsche engine, this 4-cylinder engine has a displacement of 2,479 cc.

The 944 is available in 3 versions: the 944, the 944 S and the 944 Turbo. The latter, which rolled off the production line in 1986, is a real showstopper. With 220 hp, it reaches 254 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds. The front and rear fascias were redesigned, new air intakes were added to cool the turbo, and Brembo brakes were fitted for stopping. The 944 Turbo remained largely unchanged until 1988. This was without counting on the new Porsche 944 Turbo Cup International competition launched in 1986, and its associated model. The 944 Turbo Cup competition car was adapted for the market. It outclassed the 944 Turbo, with its 250 hp engine, even bigger turbo and new brakes. It benefits from a reinforced driveshaft, adjustable Koni shock absorbers, ABS and a self-locking differential. A special Silver Rose paint job is offered for the occasion, accompanied by Turbo strippings and Burgundy plaid upholstery. Produced in 1635 examples, of which only 100 in France, the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup is the PMA benchmark.
