Singularity of the car

  • Original configuration
  • Engine in perfect condition
  • 911 air-cooled
  • Good condition

The 993 generation is the last 911 to retain the air-cooled engine. Porsche's big change for the next generation is that the 993 automatically takes on a new dimension. Produced until 1998, the 993 will benefit from a cabriolet version with 272 to 285 hp depending on the year of production, enough to enjoy the wind in your hair.

This Porsche 993 Carrera Cabriolet was launched in Germany in 1994. The number of owners and its history are not fully known. It was imported into France in 2000 and acquired by its current owner in 2023. This example is configured in Polarsilber Metallic gray exterior color, combined with gray Turbo wheels and black brake calipers. It is in generally good condition, despite a few body defects. There are slight rust spots on the windscreen bay, two door dings on the left door, a dent on the left rear fender and scratches on the left rear rim. These defects are hardly noticeable. Apart from these, the bodywork and paintwork are in good condition, as is the navy blue soft top. Inside, this Porsche 993 Cabriolet is in good condition, apart from a few elements showing a natural patina. The Metropole Blue leather seats show some signs of use, as do the gear knob and some dashboard buttons. All the components are in their original condition, but do not need to be changed. The on-board instrumentation functions normally.

Mechanically, this model is equipped with a 3.6-liter flat-6 producing 272 hp, and a 6-speed manual gearbox. All the mechanical elements function normally. The engine starts without a hitch, the gearbox doesn't stick, and roadholding is sound. This model has 141,623 kilometers on the clock. Maintenance is carried out by the Segond Group and Porsche specialists. The service history between 1996 and 2006 is available in the service booklet, and recent invoices are also supplied. The last service was carried out in November 2023. The engine sealing was completely overhauled at a cost of €6,000, and the odometer was repaired following a malfunction in March 2023.

Historical summary of the model

The Porsche 993 Carrera Cabriolet, the latest incarnation of the air-cooled 911 series, occupies a significant place in Porsche history. Produced from 1994 to 1998, it represents the culmination of decades of 911 evolution.

Technically, the 993 Carrera Cabriolet is powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six engine. Initially producing 272 hp at 6,100 rpm, this engine is increased to 285 hp in post-1996 models thanks to the adoption of OBD II (On-Board Diagnostics) engine management. Maximum torque is 340 Nm at 5,250 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission or, as an option, to the four-speed Tiptronic S transmission. In terms of performance, the 993 Carrera Cabriolet accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in around 5.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of around 270 km/h. A special highlight is the introduction of aluminum multi-link suspension, a first for the 911. This innovation offers improved roadholding and greater comfort than previous generations.

The 993 is also notable for its refined design. It retains the 911's iconic silhouette, but introduces wider fenders and rejuvenated headlamps that blend more harmoniously into the hood line. The Cabriolet model features a fully electric soft top, a significant improvement on previous models. In terms of production, the 993 Carrera Cabriolet was built at the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen plant. Although it is the least produced of the 993 variants, it remains highly sought-after by collectors and enthusiasts alike, largely due to its status as the last air-cooled 911.

In terms of variants, the 993 was offered in several versions, including the Carrera 4 (with all-wheel drive), the Carrera S, the Carrera 4S, and the high-performance Turbo. Each of these versions features distinctive design and performance characteristics. In conclusion, the Porsche 993 Carrera Cabriolet represents an important milestone in the history of Porsche and the 911 series. It embodies a balance between Porsche's classic heritage and the technological advances that have continued to shape the brand. Its design, performance and status as the last air-cooled 911 make it a sought-after and respected vehicle in the automotive world.
