The 993 generation is the last 911 to retain the air-cooled engine. Porsche's big change for the next generation is that the 993 automatically takes on a new dimension. Produced until 1998, the 993 will benefit from a cabriolet version with 272 to 285 hp depending on the year of production, enough to enjoy with the wind in your hair.
This Porsche 993 Carrera Cabriolet was launched on June 7, 1996. Originally from Germany, it passed through the hands of 4 owners before being imported into France in 2007. Its last owner acquired it in 2022. This Porsche 993 Cabriolet is in very good overall condition. The bodywork, configured in Arena Red, is in excellent condition. The paintwork is flawless, with plenty of shine and depth. There are no scratches or nicks. The Porsche 911 Type 993, launched in 1993, marks the latest iteration of the air-cooled 911 series, a Porsche hallmark since the 1940s. The series ran from 1993 to 1998, and the Carrera Cabriolet model was a notable variation.
The Type 993 features a revised design, with wider fenders and a less sloping windshield, offering a more fluid silhouette than its predecessors. The Carrera Cabriolet benefits from a soft-top fabric, designed to preserve the car's aesthetics while guaranteeing high-performance sound and heat insulation. Under the hood, the 993 Carrera Cabriolet is powered by a 3.6-liter, 6-cylinder boxer engine. Initially rated at 272 hp, this was increased to 285 hp in versions after 1995. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or, as an option, a four-speed Tiptronic gearbox. This engine enabled the 993 Carrera Cabriolet to reach 100 km/h in around 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of around 270 km/h.
A highlight of the 993 is its new multi-link suspension system, a first for the 911. This system significantly improves handling and comfort, reducing body movement and road noise, while increasing grip. Inside, the Carrera Cabriolet offers a refined cabin, with high levels of personalization options. The introduction of Porsche Stability Management (PSM) in 1995, although not standard on all models, marked an important step in the evolution of stability control systems. Production of the 993 Carrera Cabriolet ended in 1998, giving way to the 996. This model is often considered by enthusiasts and experts to be one of the best of the 911 line, thanks to its balance of classic and modern Porsche technologies. Its relatively limited production run and its status as the last air-cooled 911 make it a prized model on the collector car market.
