In technical terms, the Carrera S inherits the Carrera's 3.6-liter air-cooled flat-six engine, producing 285 hp (210 kW), thanks to the introduction of the Varioram engine management system in 1996. This system adjusts the length of the intake ducts according to engine speed, optimizing performance over a wide rpm range. The transmission was a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Carrera S chassis also benefited from modifications, with the suspension lowered by 10 mm compared to the standard Carrera.
