The offered car is a 2004 Porsche 996 Targa 4. Delivered in a beautiful midnight blue, it has very nice 5-spoke 18-inch wheels as an option as well as a perfectly preserved black interior. It also benefits from numerous options such as the PSM, or the heated and electrically adjustable seats allowing an optimal support.
The model has 123,000 kilometers on the clock and has benefited from a serious and clear follow-up since its introduction. Always maintained in the Porsche network, it received its 16-year service last August including a general check-up of the car, an oil change of all fluids, replacement of filters as well as new spark plugs and ignition coils. The car is in perfect mechanical condition, inside and out.
The key word for this 911 Targa is versatility. Its 3.6-liter flat-six with 320 horsepower, coupled with a Tiptronic automatic transmission, allows it to deliver convincing performances, reaching a top speed of 287 km/h and sprinting from 0 to 100 in 5.2 seconds.
Benefiting from a less driving experience than the previous 911s, the 996 Targa adopts a more accessible and reassuring GT behavior. True to the engine's rear overhang layout, it has benefited from innovations such as water radiators positioned in front of the front wheels, allowing for a better weight distribution, giving it a more civil and less "treacherous" behavior than its predecessors.
Certainly not the most loved 911 at the beginning of its career, the 996 marks the entry of Porsche in a new era, setting an example for the 997, 991 generations... The versatility, the reliability and the history of this model will certainly make it a must for collectors.
As the first 911 to introduce water cooling, the Type 996 had to carry the heavy burden of keeping the brand's tradition alive, while embodying its renewal.
With 20 years of hindsight, we can say that the bet has been successful. More powerful, more reassuring, more flexible, less expensive to maintain and less expensive to buy than its predecessors (993 and 964), the 175,000 units sold of the 996 are far from being a coincidence. There is also a much more exclusive body of the 996.
Indeed the 996 Targa, a concept halfway between the coupe and the convertible, was only produced in 5142 units. Available only from the 996 phase 2, it benefits from the front lights inherited from the 996 Turbo as well as the 3.6 flat-six engine, more powerful and more reliable than the 3.4 of phase 1.
The 996 Targa is the first in the line to abandon the characteristic roll bar of the Targa versions, but at the same time it gets a large retractable glass roof that can be stowed in the boot in just ten seconds. All the driver has to do is press a button on the dashboard to activate the roof control. This is a practical and ingenious system that allows the driver to enjoy a superb light view while preserving the rigidity of the coupe, amply justifying the extra 70kg.
