Since 1977, the 911 Carrera and Carrera S have been mechanically identical, with the S versions differing only in their partial Turbo look. The 997 completely changes this by offering at its launch a 3.6-liter Carrera version with 325 horsepower and a Carrera S version with a completely new 3.8-liter flat-six engine with 355 horsepower.
